MJP CONVEYANCING CHARITY OF THE YEAR
As a part of our ongoing commitment to support worthwhile causes, MJP Conveyancing have opted to undertake a programme of fundraising events in aid of Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG).
CPAG works on behalf of the more than one in four children in the UK growing up in poverty. It doesn’t have to be like this. CPAG uses its understanding of what causes poverty and the impact it has on children’s lives to campaign for policies that will prevent and solve poverty – for good. CPAG provides training, advice and information to make sure hard-up families get the financial support they need. CPAG also carries out high profile legal work to establish and protect families’ rights.
With such worrying and alarming figures David Pett Director commented;
‘I know there are a large number of people who are in denial when it comes to recognising child poverty. I regret to say there are even people within my own social circle who fall into this category. Life is lived fast, the demands of work, families and the ‘day to day’ rigours of life leave very little time for many of us to consider the plights and hardship of others. I am guilty of this and of the sub conscious blocking of what is happening immediately outside my world. The fact is child poverty very much exists in the UK and is continuing to increase. It's evident everywhere, in schools, the rise in demand on food banks, and the time has come to wake up to this reality and to do all that we can to help.
Alison Garnham, CPAG’s Chief Executive said:
‘We are delighted that MJP Conveyancing has chosen CPAG as its charity of the year.
When kids grow up poor they miss out, and so do the rest of us. They miss out on the things most children take for granted: warm clothes, school trips, having friends over for tea. They are likely to do less well at school than their better off peers and to earn less as adults. As we are bringing children up, poverty is bringing them down. That isn’t right.
Last year, CPAG supported 36,000 people through our helpline for advisors. Funds raised by MJP Conveyancing will help even more struggling families.’
