Compliance Assistant

Purpose of Job

To effectively provide support to Compliance Officer and to ensure that the firm's compliance and regulatory regime meets current requirements, conditions and client expectations.

Provide support to the Legal Team in relation to risk and quality queries/processes.


  • Investigating PEP (Politically Exposed Person) Status
  • Conducting checks on solicitor entities
  • Responding to general queries in the absence of the Compliance Officer regarding AML and Data Protection
  • Assisting with admin surrounding Subject Access Requests
  • Updating data on internal systems and policies as required with the supervision of the Compliance Office
  • Issuing monthly compliance round ups to staff
  • Updating staff training records and monitoring these
  • Logging of internal audit file review reports and chasing corrective action.
  • Generally, support the department with ad hoc tasks.
  • Responsible for ensuring own knowledge and training is kept up to date and requesting training when necessary.
  • Assisting with Conveyancing Panel applications and panel management queries
  • Basic risk queries
  • Creating training handouts and materials


  • Educated to GCSE and/or A Level standard
  • Knowledge/experience of anti-money and data protection laundering desirable but not essential

Desired skills

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software (including Outlook, Excel & Word)
  • Excellent keyboard skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Highly analytical.
  • Self-motivated, ability to use initiative and provide pro-active support Compliance Officer and Legal Team.

MJP Conveyancing are looking for Trainee Paralegals and experienced conveyancing personnel to join our award-winning team based at our modern Norwich office.

The ideal candidate will have graduated with a Law Degree, or have experience working in Conveyancing and will be used to working under pressure given that we are an extremely busy firm. Good customer service skills are also incredibly important as we are a firm that has high client care standards.

We are not your traditional Conveyancing firm and embrace technology in a bid to make the process more efficient for ourselves and for our clients. The ideal candidate will receive full, on the job training in relation to the system and our processes and will be supported by the Team Leader and colleagues.

The main duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Communicating with clients and others in person, on the phone, by letter or by email;
  • Using our bespoke case management system to update clients and third parties
  • Taking instructions from clients
  • Seeking to protect clients' interests at all times, while taking precautions against potential fraud and money laundering;
  • Drafting or checking sales contracts and agreeing terms with the conveyancer acting for the other party to the transaction
  • Collating and sending or checking supporting legal and financial documents;
  • Dealing with financial aspects of a transaction such as statements and payments to third parties.
  • Mortgage reporting
  • Our brand-new Norwich office is based on Thorpe Road which is walking distance from the city centre and close to several transport links making it a central and contemporary work space.

Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience.

Apprentice Accounts Assistant

The apprentice will work in the Accounts Team with three others. In addition to assisting with the day to day financial running of the business, the applicant will work with the Exchange and Completion Team dealing with the transfer of sale, purchase and mortgage monies.

The purpose of the role is to provide an effective and efficient finance service whilst undertaking Accounting training. The successful candidate will be expected to provide the highest level of customer service and financial support.

Main duties include

  • To assist in the everyday running of the finance office, including keeping records updated and to become confident in using accounts software
  • To provide financial support within the corporate team
  • Receiving calls that are of finance relevance and ensuring that messages are passed on or dealt with
  • Carrying out financial tasks including processing, posting and updating the accounts software, to making sure papers are correctly filed and up to date

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook
  • An understanding or interest for financial work
  • Must have good attention to detail and an accurate mathematical skill set
